The two numbers that matter
Throat width decides what will physically pass through the machine: a 9-inch laminator will not take an A3 sheet however the photograph is cropped. Pouch thickness, measured in mil, decides what the rollers can handle — a machine rated to 5 mil will stall on 10 mil stock. Every listing states both.

What we have learned running these
Warm-up time is the difference between a machine you use and a machine you avoid — a 2-minute warm-up gets used, a 10-minute one does not. A jam-release lever matters more than any feature on the box. And cooling time is worth checking if the machine has to be put away in a cupboard after use. Where the manufacturer publishes these figures, we list them.
